What is Executive Coaching?

You will hear the term "Coaching" used in many contexts - at its very core it is a relationship between two or more parties where one party is facilitated by the other(s) to achieve an outcome clearly defined by themselves within the framework of the organisation's objectives. Successful Coaching is an art that requires a range of specialist skills and "worldly" experience but crucially does not necessarily require knowledge or expertise in the area being coached.

The person being coached is given encouragement and support to define what their outcome is, develop a plan to achieve that outcome and then draw on their own resources to put that plan into action. The transfer of any specialist knowledge or information then changes the relationship to one of training and falls outside the context of coaching.

Executive Coaching is often delivered by coaches operating from outside an organisation working with the most influential people. Improving their performance improves the organisations business results. 1-1 Executive Coaching is increasingly being recognised as the way for organisations and individuals to improve performance.
