Case Study 3 - Company Merger - How Do I Adapt To Suit A New Role? How Can I Improve My Image?

Context: A merger of two large-scale organisations, which required individuals to apply for roles, still being specified, in the new structure. The organisation had, however, identified a set of core leadership competencies for the new structure. This senior manager in a global services position, had excellent credibility in the organisation.

Coaching Outcome: To help the individual identify the leadership capability and develop their confidence to apply for the roles they wanted, either inside or outside of the new merged organisation.

The Coaching Relationship: We initially met at two weekly intervals for 2 months and then at monthly intervals for a further 3 months. During the sessions we identified the client's career goals, work criteria and evidence to support the leadership competencies. In addition, we worked out a strategy that would raise their profile in the organisation, which would assist the selection process. We also worked to prepare the client for the assessment process, re-writing a CV, identifying the types of interview questions, developing responses, using the appropriate empowering language and then using the criteria we had developed to decide which roles they wanted to apply for. This preparation also involved the client working on the presentation of their personal image with a specialist in this area.

Outcome: Promoted to a Senior Global Role at the corporate offices in the United States.
